Job Description
VKontakte is seeking a Senior System Engineer to join our infrastructure team in Saint Petersburg. You will design and maintain the distributed systems powering Europe's largest social network, serving over 100 million daily active users with industry-leading uptime.
Responsibilities
- Architect and operate large-scale distributed infrastructure across multiple data centres
- Drive automation initiatives using Ansible, Terraform, and custom tooling
- Lead capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimisation efforts
- Respond to and lead resolution of critical production incidents
- Mentor junior engineers and establish system engineering best practices
Requirements
- 6+ years of system engineering or SRE experience at scale
- Deep Linux expertise and strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, Go)
- Experience with bare-metal and cloud infrastructure at petabyte scale
- Strong knowledge of networking protocols, BGP, DNS, and load balancing
- Experience with observability stacks: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK
Compensation
- Competitive USD-denominated salary $130,000–$190,000
